Using whole insects in food can be a little daunting for beginners, and we have all been there - even the Eat Crawlers team were a little nervous to try insects for the first time all those years ago. But NEVER FEAR, we have made this awesome recipe for tasty tacos, that are quick and easy, and will have the family coming back for more.

This is a really easy recipe to follow and you can get creative and sub any ingredients out for others you have left over in the pantry.

Sautéing the crickets in the delicious sesame soy sauce gives them a awesome asian style taste, and the chopped red chilli gives the tacos a nice kick!

Using insects in recipes like this is a really easy way to get the benefits of eating insects. Like high levels of protein, B12, all 9 omega fatty acids, iron and calcium. Crickets are a sustainable and highly beneficial form of protein. INGREDIENTS

SESAME SOY CRICKETS
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 clove garlic, diced
1 tbsp sesame oil
20g Lightly Salted Crickets

TACOS
1/2 bunch cos lettuce, chopped
1 carrot, grated
1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
1 red chilli, finely chopped
1 tsp mixed sesame seeds, garnish

 

METHOD 

1. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil and garlic, mix to combine. Stir though crickets to coat in the sauce.

2. Add sesame soy crickets to a hot pan and sauté until heated though. Set aside.

3. Assemble tacos with lettuce, carrot, red onion, chilli, sesame soy crickets and sesame seeds as garnish.

4. Add any sauces, try some aioli or sweet chilli!
